Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD is a super-telephoto zoom lens made for use on a camera with full frame sensor, but also works well on APS-C models. The lens is unusually light for its focal range, with a weight of only 1115 grams. But that is not reflected in the build quality. The barrel is partially made from metal(magnesium alloy) and rubber seals have been placed on all moving parts of the tube to keep out moisture. In addition, the front lens element has a protective fluorine coating that repels rain drops, oil, fingerprints and dirt and makes it easier to clean. Dual processors for maximum performance An ultrasonic motor (USD) provides fast and quiet auto focus. Built-in image stabilization, (VC, Vibration Compensation) allows for sharp images at up to 4 steps longer shutter speed than you can normally use at free hand. The lens also has dual microprocessors to guarantee maximum performance for both auto focus and image stabilization. An Arca-Swiss style tripod mount is available as an optional accessory. Designed exclusively for this lens it provides quick and secure attachment to a tripod and greater stability. With a minimum focus distance of 1.5 m at all focal lengths the lens provides a maximum magnification ratio of 1: 3.6. A focus limiter can be used to make sure the lens is optimized for longer distances, a useful feature for action scenes like sports photography. Optical construction The advanced optical design consists of 17 elements divided into 11 groups. Three elements are made of LD glass (Low Dispersion) to counteract chromatic aberration while Tamron's eBAND and BBAR anti reflection coatings ensure maximum image contrast by minimizing ghosting, flare and reflexes. Accessories Besides the Arca Swiss compatible tripod mount the Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD is also compatible with Tamron's 1.4x teleconverter TC-X14, providing a focal length of 140-560mm with a maximum aperture of f/6.3-9. Used on an APS-C camera it becomes equivalent to a 210-840mm super-telephoto zoom for full frame.
