New optical design for higher sharpness and resolution Today's digital cameras put high demands on the resolution of the lens. The new optical design in Tamron SP 150-600 mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2, consisting of 21 lens elements in 13 groups, is designed to match those demands. Three elements of low-dispersion (LD) glass eliminate the risk of chromatic aberration that may cause color defects and affect sharpness. Accurate manufacturing process and assembly also contribute to the improved image quality. Tamron's Extensions (Extended Bandwidth & Angular Dependency) and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) are used to maximize light emission and counteract reflexes and stray light. Faster AF and more stable images Compared to the previous version of the lens, the autofocus is considerably faster in order to better cope with moving subjects such as in birds and sports. The Ultra Sonic Silent Drive (USD) also provides quiet autofocus and the ability to manual override without any need to switch focus mode. Another important improvement is found in the lens's built-in image stabilization, which now is able to compensate for camera shakes at up to 4.5 steps longer shutter speeds than what is normally recommended for freehand photography. The stabilization has also been given three different modes; In Mode 1 it provides normal functionality (stabilization in all directions). Mode 2 is for panning (stabilization only compensates vertical shake) and in Mode 3 the stabilization is not activated until you press the shutter button, which will both save battery and also provide the sharpest possible results. New, more exclusive design To blend into Tamron's current SP series, the lens has been redesigned and now also comes with a metal casing. The result is a telephoto zoom that both look more elegant and feels more premium while using it. As before, weather seals protect against moisture and dust while fluorine coating prevents dirt and grease from sticking to the front element and makes it easier to clean. Improved handling The minimum focus has been reduced from previously 2,7 meters to 2,2 meters in the new Tamron SP 150-600 mm G2 lens. It provides a maximum image scale of 1: 3,9 which means that the lens can be used to photograph larger insects such as dragonflies and butterflies. Furthermore, a new kind of zoom lock has been added; Flex Zoom Lock. It is used to lock the zoom on a selectable focal length. There is also a regular zoom lock that can be activated during transport. It is activated at 150 mm where the lens occupies the least amount of space and is usually used for storing purposes. Electromagnetic aperture, which provides more accurate aperture control, is now available not only in the Canon version but also in Nikon. Another improvement is the new tripod foot, which is made of light but strong magnesium alloy and now compatible with Arca Swiss mount. And with the optional Tamron TAP-in Console, which includes a USB port for computer connection, the user can perform firmware updates and fine-tune the lens's auto focus and image stabilization. The lens is also compatible with Tamron's teleconverters, the TC-X14 and the TC-X20. Note that the use of a teleconverter reduces the maximum aperture of the lens, which affects the camera's auto focus. With a 1.4x converter, 1 aperture stop is lost and with 2x converter, the loss becomes 2 stops. Important features Made for full frame but can also be used on APS-C cameras Dual processors for maximum AF and image stabilization performance Ultrasonic motor (USD) provides quick and silent focus Image stabilization (VC) capable of handling 4,5 stops longer shutter speeds provide greater freedom while shooting freehand Weather sealed lens barrel for premium feel Advanced optical design with 21 elements provides high image quality at all focal lengths 2,2-meter minimum focus provide an image ratio of 1:3,9 eBAND and BBAR coatings for maximum light transmission and image contrast Electromagnetic aperture with both Canon and Nikon cameras Arca Swiss compatible tripod foot Compatible with Tamron”s 1,4x and 2x teleconverters and the Tamron Tap-in console
