The phase objective is designed to study live specimens indistinguishable or barely visible without contrast. In this case, staining microorganisms is impossible, as it leads to their death. Phase contrast makes microorganisms visible without directly affecting or harming them.

For phase contrast observations, you will need a phase condenser. The 20HP objective is combined with a ring diaphragm marked 20x or a phase-contrast annuli plate with a ring for the 20x objective.

The 20HP model has 20x magnification and works best with eyepieces between 10x and 20x magnification. Together, they form a useful microscope magnification of 200x to 400x. It makes no sense to include eyepieces of a different magnification into the system since they will either not provide a sufficiently informative image or they will be excessive for it and will not bring you any additional benefit. The objective distinguishes sample elements at a minimum distance of 0.69µm.

The objective has a large flat field, covering 90% of the entire visible surface, and focuses equally well on the entire visible area. This feature is well supported by digital cameras or eyepieces with a 22mm field of view. With a 10x/22mm eyepiece, the field of view is 1.1mm. The objective corrects chromatic aberrations at two wavelengths (red and blue) and spherical aberrations at one wavelength (green).

The 20HP model is mounted on a biological or fluorescence inverted microscope. It is used to study samples placed in laboratory ware with a bottom thickness of 1.2mm. The objective is infinity-corrected; the parfocal distance is 45mm.
