This eyepiece has a scale that is placed in the plane of the field diaphragm for measuring samples in millimeters or microns. The scale division is 0.1mm. It is mounted into a 30mm diameter eyepiece tube instead of a standard 10x magnification eyepiece. For each objective that is being used, you must calibrate the scale. It requires a calibration slide (micrometer object) with a graduation scale of 0.01mm. The slide is placed on the microscope stage and the eyepiece is rotated in the tube until the scales of the eyepiece and slide are parallel. The division value of the eyepiece scale is also determined for each objective. For low magnification objectives, you should count the number of divisions of the eyepiece scale that fall within the scale of the calibration slide. For medium and high magnification objectives, you should do the opposite, i.e., calculate how many divisions of the slide scale fall within the eyepiece scale. The division value (E) is then calculated using the formula: E = TL/A, where T – is the division value of the micrometer slide scale (0.01mm); L – number of divisions of the slide scale; A – number of divisions of the eyepiece scale. To calculate the true linear size of a sample, you should measure the length of the sample on the eyepiece scale and then multiply this value by the E value calculated for the objective.
