Product description

The Hassi Messaoud 001 meteorite was discovered on 11 March 2020 near the town of El Borma, Algeria. It had an extremely limited total mass of just 75 grams and is officially classified as a nakhlite. Nakhlites are an exclusive group of Martian meteorites named after the famous Nakhla meteorite, which was the first of its kind ever found.

Geologically, nakhlites are eruptive rocks rich in augite that formed from basaltic magma approximately 1.3 billion years ago. They contain distinct augite and olivine crystals. Their crystallization age, when compared to crater counts across various regions of Mars, strongly suggests that the Nakhlites originated in the iconic Tharsis, Elysium, or Syrtis Major Planum volcanic regions of Mars.

Each individual specimen is unique, and the exact weight varies within the specified range. Please note that the visual size of the meteorite depends entirely on its weight; therefore, the product image serves as a general representation. SkyHunters ensures access to high-quality astronomical specimens accompanied by expert background details for astronomy enthusiasts.
