Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ

The Celestron StarSense Explorer DX 130AZ combines a powerful 130mm Newtonian reflector with innovative StarSense technology that uses your smartphone to analyze the night sky and determine the telescope”s position in real time. Designed for beginners, it provides an intuitive way to locate celestial objects without complex star charts or computerized mounts.

Key Advantages

  • StarSense Sky Recognition technology for real-time sky navigation.
  • 130mm Newtonian reflector with highly reflective Al/SiO2 mirror coatings.
  • Stable Alt-Azimuth mount with slow-motion controls on both axes.
  • Adjustable full-height tripod with accessory tray.
  • Smartphone-guided object locating through the StarSense Explorer app.
  • Compatible with most modern smartphones.
  • Suitable for observing planets, nebulae, galaxies, and star clusters.
  • Quick setup and beginner-friendly operation.

Product Description

Place your smartphone in the StarSense dock and launch the StarSense Explorer app. After a quick two-minute alignment process, the app generates a list of currently visible celestial objects and displays arrows on-screen to guide you toward your selected target. When the object enters the eyepiece field of view, the bullseye indicator turns green.

StarSense Explorer uses the Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), similar to systems used by orbiting satellites, to match observed star patterns against its internal database. This approach provides greater accuracy than astronomy apps relying solely on smartphone sensors.

The ultra-stable Alt-Azimuth mount features slip clutches and geared slow-motion controls on both axes, allowing smooth and precise tracking of celestial objects as they move across the sky. The system is supported by a full-height adjustable tripod.

The 130mm aperture and 650mm focal length provide bright and detailed views of celestial objects. Highly reflective coatings on both the primary and secondary mirrors enhance light transmission and image contrast.

Observe Jupiter”s Galilean moons, cloud bands and Great Red Spot, Saturn”s rings, the Trapezium in the Orion Nebula, the Pleiades star cluster, the Andromeda Galaxy, the Hercules Cluster, and many other deep-sky targets.

Even under light-polluted urban skies, the telescope can reveal Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, the Orion Nebula, double stars, and other bright celestial objects. Darker observing locations reveal significantly more deep-sky targets.

Compatible with most modern smartphones, including iPhone 6 and newer models and most Android devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016.
