Product description

This exclusive specimen offers the chance to own a genuine piece of moon rock, designated as NWA 10203. This material was detached from the lunar surface by a powerful meteorite impact and struck the Earth in North West Africa (NWA), specifically within the Sahara Desert, where it was discovered in 2015.

In total, there are only about 40 kg of moon meteorites known on Earth, and only 1/3 of these are available for commercial sale. The total recovered mass of the NWA 10203 meteorite is exactly 3.3 kilograms. The included sample size is approximately 3 mm. Please note that the product image is similar, and the background motif of the storage box may vary.

Proof of Authenticity and Scientific Classification

The only institution authorized to officially homologate and record meteorites is the Meteoritical Society based at the British Museum NH in London. There, all meteorites are centrally documented, including all Antarctic search finds, desert discoveries, and historical falls and finds. The collected data is examined, numbered or named, and officially published in the annual Meteoritical Bulletin.

The recognition procedure is strictly defined: a sample from each meteorite, along with all known find data, must be submitted to one of the few specialized university laboratories recognized by the Meteoritical Society. The laboratory then creates thin sections of the piece for microscopic evaluation of the texture and composition for precise comparison. A general chemical analysis is carried out, and key minerals as well as important isotopes are measured. All information gathered is summarized in a report, including a proposal for the specific subclass of meteorite, and submitted to the Nomenclature Committee of the Meteoritical Society. This committee is composed of leading international meteorite specialists who analyze the data for plausibility and then unanimously accept or reject the report or request further analysis. Once recognized, all basic and key data are published in the biannual Meteoritical Bulletin, the global standard reference for meteorites. The Meteoritical Society and its collaborating laboratories operate entirely on a non-commercial basis.

As an additional assurance of origin, the manufacturer is a registered member of the International Meteorite Collectors Association (IMCA), which certifies the authenticity of the material sold by its members. As one of the leading telescope and astronomical product suppliers, SkyHunters ensures that all detailed scientific and product information matches official institutional records.
