Draco – High-Performance Smart Telescope for Astrophotography and Stargazing

Draco is a smart telescope with a high-performance catadioptric optical system, 90 mm aperture, automated tracking and integrated imaging functions. The comparatively large aperture provides high light-gathering power and high resolution, creating suitable conditions for observing and photographing deep-sky objects as well as the Moon and planets.

Key advantages

  • 90 mm catadioptric optical system for high light-gathering power and resolution.
  • 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor for sharp and highly detailed images of astronomical objects.
  • Integrated guidescope provides precise tracking and single exposures of up to 300 seconds.
  • 128 GB internal memory for storing images.
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC for wireless data transfer.
  • Wi-Fi provides data transfer over distances of up to 15 m at rates of up to 30 MB/s.
  • Built-in battery with a capacity of 77 Wh (10,000 mAh / 7.7 V) provides approximately five hours of operation.
  • Sensor cooling reduces thermal noise and improves conditions for astrophotography during longer exposures.
  • IP56 protection against dust and powerful water jets.
  • Additional 1/1.8-inch wide-angle camera assists with sky orientation and framing and can capture large areas of the sky, such as the Milky Way.
  • The telephoto and wide-angle cameras can be used simultaneously.
  • The CMOS sensor can be physically rotated to adapt the image orientation, including for vertical or diagonal compositions.
  • Supports both Alt-Az and EQ modes; EQ mode enables longer and more precise tracking.

Product description

At the heart of Draco is a high-performance catadioptric optical system with a 90 mm aperture. The optical system projects light onto a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor, which captures astronomical subjects sharply and in great detail.

The integrated guidescope enables precise tracking and single exposures of up to 300 seconds. Images are stored on the generously sized 128 GB internal memory.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC are available for wireless data transfer. Via Wi-Fi, data can be transferred over a distance of up to 15 metres at a rate of up to 30 MB/s. Images can alternatively be transferred to a compatible device via the USB-C interface. The USB-C port is also used to charge the built-in battery, which has a capacity of 77 Wh (10,000 mAh / 7.7 V). The battery provides approximately five hours of operating time.

The integrated sensor cooling system reduces thermal noise and improves the conditions for high-quality astrophotography, particularly during longer exposure times. The heat generated during operation is specifically used to regulate the temperature of the optics and prevent the front lens from fogging on cold or damp nights.

With an IP56 protection rating, Draco is designed for use in varying weather and environmental conditions. The housing is protected against dust and powerful water jets, making it suitable for mobile outdoor use.

An additional 1/1.8-inch wide-angle camera expands the smart telescope's range of functions. It assists with orientation in the sky and selecting the desired frame, while also enabling images of large areas of the sky, such as the Milky Way. The telephoto and wide-angle cameras can be used simultaneously, allowing both the wider surroundings and the actual subject to be captured.

For additional creative possibilities, the CMOS sensor can be physically rotated. This allows the image format to be flexibly adapted to the subject, which is particularly useful for vertical or diagonal compositions.

In addition to classic Alt-Az operation, Draco also supports EQ mode. This enables longer and more precise tracking, expanding the possibilities for deep-sky photography.

Draco can be used for deep-sky imaging, Moon and planet photography, Milky Way images, star trails, time-lapse and panoramic photography. The smart telescope therefore combines astronomical optics with automated tracking, integrated image processing and versatile imaging functions.

Draco versions

The Draco Smart Telescope is available in two versions.

  • Standard version DWARFLAB Smart Telescope MC 90/340 Draco includes an astronomy filter, dark-frame filter, integrated ND solar filter (OD=5) and dual narrowband filter Hα+OIII with a half-width of 13±3 nm.
  • DWARFLAB Smart Telescope MC 90/340 Draco SHO includes an astronomy filter, dark-frame filter, external ND solar filter (OD=5), dual narrowband filter Hα+OIII with a half-width of 13±3 nm and dual narrowband filter SII+OIII with a half-width of 13±3 nm. This version therefore enables imaging using the so-called Hubble palette.

The standard version is suitable for the vast majority of users, while the SHO version is particularly intended for astrophotography specialists.
